Sterling Silver Chain Jewelry
Silver chains and necklaces are traditionally adorned by both men and women and are eternally in vogue. Whether a traditional herringbone, a masculine figaroa, or an elegant diamond-cut serpentine, sterling chain is available in hundreds of styles, thicknesses, and types. Most of these styles are Italian silver chain, made in modern factories in the heartland of Italy with traditions deeply rooted in the history of Italy. Families of chains in our jewelry catalog are grouped together from smallest or lightest to largest or heaviest, as a means of facilitating ordering. Their available lengths, from short choker length to long and extensive for adorning lockets or pendants, include men’s and women’s bracelets and are also detailed within the catalog. Many silver chains are able to accommodate charms, stone pendants, or lockets or they can be worn simply without any additional embellishments and revered for their simplicity.

Silver Bead Chain - Bead chain is family of chain characterized by small round silver balls, which form a continuous strand of sterling silver bead chain. Elongated spaces are sometimes added, as well as bar-shaped beads to offer a more glamorous appearance. They are available in single and multi-row formats with the beads themselves offering a diamond cut finish for a shiny and glimmering effect or a more traditional high polish texture. Specialty designs in this style of chain include graduated beads, V-shaped patterns, the addition of liquid silver, and an oval shape of bead chain.

Silver Box Chain - Just as the name implies, sterling silver box chain is a continuous linking of interconnected six-sided, three-dimensional, sterling silver, miniature boxes. We stock several different sizes and varieties include a twisted version, a box with interspersed beads, and a C-box which offers a more curved and undulating pattern, rather than angular design as with the traditional box styles.

Silver Curb Chain & Cable Chain - Silver curb chain is based on an ancient simplistic design of interlocking similar links together to form a unified product known as a curb chain. Because most early 19th century chain making practices involved little to no machinery, the links were made fairly sizeable in order to craft the product in the most time efficient manor. This larger and weightier grouping of links makes silver curb chain a natural choice for men’s jewelry, however, with the advent of modern machinery, smaller and more feminine styles are now available.
The name cable chain owes its name to the heavy and industrial type of cable chain, which is typically used to hoist anchors on large freighters. Both of these styles often are mistaken for one another, however, the cable grouping generally takes on a more 3-dimensional aspect, whereas the curb links are generally flatter. Most of these styles are available in high polish luster, however a few styles of the curbs may be available with a Pave´ finish.

STAMP-220 : STERLING SILVER STAMPATO 220 CHAIN
Stampato is an example of a classical design from Italy. This fancy link sterling silver chain is comprised of 3 rows of ovalesque-shaped beads, the middle of which is offset from the end rows. It is flexible and has been a consistently great seller for many years. |

MESH-5MM : STERLING SILVER 5MM MESH CHAIN
A tightly woven, honeycombed pattern defines the mesh chain. A statement in simplicity and refinement as well as a gorgeous example of fine Italian workmanship |

FLBYZ-100 : STERLING SILVER FLAT BYZANTINE 100 CHAIN
As its namesake suggests, the group of Byzantine chains are homage to the dome shape; one of the classic gifts given to us by the Byzantines. Upon close examination of this style of sterling silver chain, one can clearly see the opposing dome scheme that distinguishes this grouping. | |
| Sterling Silver Figaroa Chain - A combination of three curb links followed by an oval cable with a repeating pattern incorporates a new style of silver chain known as the silver figaroa chain. A quintessentially masculine chain in the larger and heavier varieties, this link embodies manliness and virility; the smaller and lighter variations are a prime choice for any sterling chain wearer and not merely the choice exclusively of men. There are three distinctive specialty variations of figaroa: A specialty finish known as pave imparts an additional element of sparkle to the silver chain. Infinity figaroa is distinguished by its infinity symbol “∞” shaped links, which is followed by an oval cable link. This style does not follow the characteristic “3- plus-1” pattern of figaroas. Figaroa Marina substitutes marina links in lieu of curb chain and generally maintains the typical figaroa linking pattern.

Figmar Silver Chain - Figmar styling is a union of the Figaroa chain “3-plus-1” pattern with Marina chain family links used in lieu of curb chain. Because of its excessive size, Figmar 300 employs a “2-plus-1” pattern, while still maintaining a strong resemblance to its smaller and lighter counterparts.

Liquid Silver Chain - Liquid Silver chain is a style of sterling silver chain or necklace, which is formed by the addition of tiny cylindrical silver beads and strung on chain, cord or wire. These beads move minimally along the strand and produce a shimmering effect, similar to water flowing, giving rise to the term liquid silver. This fashion was popularized during the 1970’s and was known by an alternate name of heishi, which is used interchangeably today. Variations in style include 5,10,20, and 50-strand and a fancier 10-strand, which sports sterling silver beads throughout the individual rows of liquid silver.

Silver Magic Chain & Herringbone Chain - Herringbone chain is one of the more widely popular styles of sterling silver chains for us at Plum Island Silver. The double herringbone chain is the traditional thicker, more rigid version of the updated, more flexible and forgiving magic chain. As the chain is meant to lay flat, we advise that no charms or pendants be hung from these styles of chain. Most lengths from 7” women's bracelet through 30” chains are available in each of the gauges of magic and double herringbone, however please consult the catalog for specific details within each gauge. Modifications and variations include the following:
- Magic chain with dolphins - this diminutive gauge of sterling silver magic chain bears an embossed imprint of swimming dolphins along the length of the chain.
- Twisted magic chain – employs a process by which the chain takes on a characteristic corkscrew appearance. This category also is available in a triple multi-strand variety and a single strand rendition, which exhibits a coiled bead chain running parallel to the twisted magic chain.
- A Florentine finish, diamond-cut, 3-braid style elegantly finishes out this category of sterling silver chain.

Silver Snake Chain - Soft, slippery, supple and sleek are all descriptive ways of verbally describing the snake chain family of Italian silver chains. General distinguishing details include, a homogenous, soft, and flexible chain, which approximates the texture and consistency of the skin of a snake. Alterations and embellished designs include:
- Snake chain with disk design in which a thin snake chain dons doughnut-shaped beads in a regular fixed length pattern.
- Diamond-cut snake chain, which is accented with angular cuts and offers a shiny effect.
- Square snake chain in which the edges of the chain are beveled to a 90 ° angle. One variant in this subcategory of the snake is the 4S-design, which consists of a quadruple row of a small gauge of square snake chains.
- Twisted snake chain and twisted snake with beads are simply as their name implies.
- Snake-3 braid is a triple chain of round snake, which is woven and braided into a tight weave.
- Oval snake is the most realistic, snake-like texture that we offer.
